Iron Warhorse Centenary – Sat 9 and Sun 10 September

Two of our locomotives were built in 1917 and are celebrating their centenaries this year – 778 and 2182.

We will be operating our enhanced timetable, with departures at 1030, 1125, 1220, 1315, 1410, 1505 and 1600. 778 will haul the 1600 return departure along with freight trains throughout the rest of the day. 2182 will be on display, along with other World War One locos Festoon and our Brigadelok.

More information on the two locos is on the The Greensand Railway Museum Trust's page, who operate them both.

We will be restaging our successful WW1 wagon rides recreating the journeys the troops took to the frontline, with smoke effects, and soldiers on hand to explain their role in the war.

There will also be displays of some of their equipment and weapons. Plan on spending 130 minutes on the trip as you need to wait for the next train to enjoy the extra wagon ride in between.

Also on display will be our rebuilt, but probably WW1 survivor, 20hp petrol locomotive "Festoon" and there will be a chance to get closer to our German Army Brigadelok locomotive.
