General information

Where is the Leighton Buzzard Railway?

We are easy to reach from London, Birmingham and the Chilterns. Please see our find us page for directions by car, public transport, bicycle and boat.

What are your opening hours?

Our Page's Park ticket office and shop are open from 10am to 4pm on running days. See our timetables page for our calendar and details of special events.

How long is the line?

It is just under three miles (5km) long. Future plans include extending the line half a mile past Stonehenge Works to Double Arches Quarry.

What is a narrow-gauge railway?

A standard-gauge railway has tracks laid 1,435mm (4ft 8.5inches) apart. Narrow-gauge railways are, simply, narrower. The Leighton Buzzard Railway has a gauge of 610mm (2ft).

How can I find out more about the line?

Pick up a guide book in our shop for £3, which has detailed information about our line and trains. Alternatively you can download our app, which gives you information at our stations and as you travel along the line.

Do you have paid staff?

No. All our staff work on a voluntary basis – including our chairman!

How can I volunteer?

See our volunteering page for information of the sort of jobs that we need help with – it's not all about the trains! For insurance purposes, you must also become a member of the society.

Apart from volunteering, how else can I help?

As a non-profit organisation, we rely heavily on donations. We are currently fundraising to extend the line towards its original terminus – click here for further details.

What is the smoking policy?

Smoking is prohibited on our trains (including the open carriages) and in our buildings. Th smoking areas are outside the front of the station building at Page's Park, and at the end of the platform outside the craft shop at Stonehenge Works.

Tickets

How much does it cost?

We have two levels of fares. The main season runs from March to November with trains operating the full route. Special fares apply in December for our Santa Specials. All fare information can be seen here.

Can I buy tickets in advance?

Up to 30 tickets can be purchased on the website – just use the booking engine on the left of the page.

Why do you only offer returns and not day rovers?

We only have a finite number of seats, and to ensure we don't leave anyone behind after they have bought a ticket, we need to know exactly which train you wish to travel on. This is especially important when operating our standard service, where a missed train means a two-hour wait. If you wish to make a second trip on the same day, this will be charged at half price.

What discounts are available?

Groups of four of more paying passengers receive a 10% discount. We also offer a 50% discount on second or subsequent journeys made on the same day, in lieu of a rover ticket.

At the station

Is the Leighton Buzzard Railway wheelchair accessible?

Our new station building at Page's Park is fully accessible, and two of our carriages have been adapted to carry wheelchairs. The wheelchair user will pay their fare, with the carer travelling free of charge. We need to ensure the carriage on your train is altered to allow space for wheelchair users, so please request that wheelchair tickets are either booked online in advance of the day, or if this is not possible, please call us on the day in advance of your visit, ideally at least an hour before your chosen train departs. More information can be found on our accessibility page.

Is Wi-Fi available?

We have free-to-use Wi-Fi in our station building at Page's Park. The network is Plusnetwireless78FA7F, and the password is Stonehenge.

Do you have baby-changing facilities?

Yes we do. They are located in the toilets in the Buzzrail Café at Page's Park.

On the train

Do your trains have toilets?

Unfortunately they do not. However there are facilities at both Page's Park and Stonehenge Works stations, including baby-changing facilities in the Buzzrail Café.

Do you have first-class carriages?

No we don't. All our carriages are of the same standard, whether open or closed.

Can I bring a pushchair?

You may bring a pushchair on the train, but it will need to be folded up and left in the guard's van for the journey. If you do not wish to bring it along, we can store them securely for you at Page's Park station until your return.

Can I bring my dog?

Well-behaved dogs are always welcome, and travel free. There are water bowls provided at both ends of the line, to keep our four-legged friends cool on hot days.

Can I reserve a seat?

You can't reserve an exact seat (unless as part of a group booking, where we can reserve part of a carriage for your party). However buying your ticket online in advance guarantees you a seat on your chosen train. The best advice we can give to ensure you have the biggest choice of seat (or carriage) is to arrive early – trains are usually available for boarding up to 30 minutes before departure.

Where can I find more information about your trains?

It's all listed here. Alternatively, why not pick up a copy of our stock list book, available in our shop for £2.
